Neo Young is a Canadian tribute project dedicated to the music and legacy of legendary singer-songwriter Neil Young. Gary Pooler captures and interprets Young’s distinctive vibe, vocal tone, guitar style, and stage presence, without resorting to an “impression”: or caricature of Neil. Active since the early 1980s, this tribute has appeared at theatres, festivals, and concert events across Canada. From intimate solo acoustic settings to outdoor concerts, Neo Young offers it all.
A typical Neo Young performance features a solo acoustic first set, followed by a five-piece lineup (Neo, Bass, Drums, Pedal Steel, and Fiddle) for the second set. Neo interprets classic songs such as “Heart of Gold”, “Powderfinger”, “Harvest Moon,” and “Rockin’ in the Free World,” while incorporating storytelling and visual elements that highlight Neil’s history and cultural impact.
In recent years the show has also experimented with interactive formats that encourage audience sing-alongs and participation, making Neo Young a popular tribute act on the Canadian theatre and live-music circuit.
