KW Youth Concert Band is an auditioned, high-level youth wind ensemble based in the Waterloo Region of Ontario, Canada, dedicated to providing advanced musical training and performance opportunities for young musicians. The band encompasses a full wind ensemble, including standard woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments, and performs a diverse repertoire ranging from classical transcriptions to contemporary arrangements, film scores, and popular music adaptations, such as their renditions of “Back to the Future,” Bernstein’s Overture to Candide, and John Williams’ Obi-Wan. Founded by Trevor Wagler, the KW Youth Concert Band emphasizes both technical proficiency and expressive musicality, fostering a collaborative environment where students develop ensemble skills, sight-reading ability, and performance confidence. Auditions are conducted primarily by video submission, although in-person options are available, ensuring accessibility for a broad range of participants. The ensemble regularly performs in prominent local venues, including Maureen Forrester Hall at Wilfrid Laurier University, and participates in themed concerts such as ICONIC, allowing students to experience professional-level concert preparation, public performance, and musical interpretation, solidifying the KW Youth Concert Band as a leading youth arts organization in the region.
